Start Your Day – Your Way !

Neurosciences provide interesting insights on what is good for brain activity, good for our wellbeing and subsequently our efficiency at work. We know now that our brain works at its full power in the morning and we know what can slow it down or pollute it.

Perhaps then, in order to start your day well, it’s a good idea to take a few minutes with some breathing exercises such as cardiac coherence and/or  take time to visually organise your day supported, why not, by a mind map.

However, neurosciences have not yet fully explored the personality differences amongst individuals and it’s impact on our cerebral schema.  This axis of research will certainly lead to fascinating discoveries about the nuances of the  brains functions. Proven models such as the Process Communication Model (PCM) have identified ranges of psychological needs depending on our personality type.

Surely personality type does influence our ideal morning routine.

So, below are 6 different morning routine suggestions for different personality types to get started in their working day:

  • Breath, relax and / or set up a  routine to share some heartfelt words with someone important to you.
  • Tidy up your desk and write a plan for your day.
  • Connect with what is important to you by taking 5 minutes to write down what you really care about and want to contribute to today
  • Start your day with time for yourself – perhaps take a short walk alone before entering the office
  • Immerse yourself straight into the action by tackling one thing you can achieve quickly and then enjoy the immediate result or benefit.
  • Go for a coffee with your colleagues and team and then back at your desk, take 5 min to capture this mornings brilliant ideas.

How could you know what is best for you?

  1. Go through the list & strikeout what does not immediately appeal to you.
  2. Looking at the remaining ones –  have you recently tried any of them? with what results?
  3. Set aside what you know does not work well for you.

If you still  have several choices left, give them all a try and see what works best. Try to perform the chosen morning routine in full consciousness.  You can help yourself with a little mantra such as “Time to go to work / First my routine to start the day well / I deserve to get all the opportunities on my side / My routine is the first step towards a successful day.”
