Frequently Asked Questions about Outplace Yourself

Is Outplace
For me?

Who are typical Outplace Yourself clients?

Outplace Yourself clients are individuals, not  HR departments. They are professionals who are not fully satisfied at work and have decided to change this situation and seek greater fulfillment.

Each story is different and unique, but our clients commonly report missing a sense of purpose. What they really want is work where they can make a meaningful contribution and that provides them with the motivation and stimulation they seek.

Some of our clients come to us because they cannot cope with the stress in their present job, others may lack challenge and feel bored. We also coach clients who are worried about forthcoming changes in their organisation and want to get prepared for a change.

What outcomes have you observed with your clients as a result of Outplace Yourself Coaching?

The outcome of the coaching is usually change, although not necessarily a change of job or company. Some of our clients successfully changed their roles or improved interactions with their superiors and members of their team.  Others, by readjusting their beliefs and behaviours and realigning themselves with their purpose and values, achieved a major change in their satisfaction without a major professional disruption.  But, for whatever the reason, for all it’s a real journey!

We often coach clients who enter the program with a very definite idea as to how they intend to escape from that which dissatisfies them professionally. Subsequently, their ideas as to their available options changed completely when they gained a better understanding of themselves and the frustrations that were inhibiting career fulfillment.

Of course, we also accompany our clients on their journeys when changing companies and jobs, during inspiring U-turn career transformations and in getting started in amazing entrepreneurial projects.

Are Outplace Yourself Coaches qualified to coach me?

Yes! The Outplace Yourself Coaches have specialized in career coaching and are trained in the Outplace Yourself Coaching methodology. All coaches have the capacity to adapt to their client’s style, engage them throughout their journey, remain open to any possible choices and provide attentive support. They all have the ability to drive for results and, equally important, make the coaching program an agreeable and memorable experience for their clients. They all share the  Outplace Yourself DNA.

What makes coaching the solution to gain professional fulfillment?

The definition of professional fulfillment, the experience of it and the potential access to it are unique to each one of us.

Coaching is a discipline which is based on nurturing each individual’s character, personality and talents to help them gather a unique set of resources for building a unique path towards achieving their important goals. In that respect, coaching is the ultimate solution to anybody who is aiming for a change that is carefully considered and fully embraced.

How would I know that Outplace Yourself is the type of coaching I need?

Take a minute for quick introspection: How do you feel at work?

  • Hungry for a change?
  • Empty? Lacking purpose and meaning?
  • Exhausted? Stress is off the limits?
  • Lost? Feel as if your values were disconnected?
  • Disappointed that your skills are underused?
  • Worried that the winds are changing?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, Outplace Yourself is exactly the right kind of coaching for you.

How do I know that I’ll get results from working with you?

The fact that you are reading this Q&A now is the most encouraging sign you will be getting results from your coaching. From our experience, we know that there’s a moment in their life when professionals are ready for the change, ready to step out of their comfort zone, look deep inside themselves and to have the courage to take their actions to successful completions.

The art of coaching mastered by the Outplace Yourself Coaches is to maximize the momentum, to provide you with a proven process and methodology and to encourage you on your way, stretching and challenging the limits you might believe you have.

What can I expect from my coach / What shouldn’t I expect from my coach?

You can expect a lot from your Outplace Yourself coach. He/she will be for you a sparring partner, mirror, mood booster, welcoming shoulder, attentive listener, challenger, provocateur and much more. He/she is the one you have chosen to get started on a path that takes courage and commitment. He/she will be on your side during the journey.

The Outplace Yourself Coach is responsible for the coaching process, choosing and proposing the coaching exercises which will smooth your path and help you shape your own answers. The Coach knows how to adapt to you, engage with you along your journey and help you evaluate alternative options.  He/she has the ability to help you achieve and, equally importantly, make coaching an agreeable and memorable experience for you.

The coach is not going to impose his or her opinion on you, make decisions for you or be the one who will carry out the changes; you will.

Why fulfilling my career should be my initiative and not the one of my company?

Professional fulfillment is essential for personal satisfaction. We can decide whether to leave it to others to decide for us or whether we should take the initiative ourselves. It very much depends on you. Within Outplace Yourself we believe that each individual has the ability to choose his/her own destiny and achieve that which is best for him/her. The idea of Outplace Yourself was born out of the belief: “Let’s not wait to be offered an outplacement package to make a difference to your life.”

30 min
Discovery call

What is the purpose of the offered 30 min discovery call?

This is a short, free-of-charge call where you and the coach can begin to get to know each other and make sure there is a right fit for the two of you to work together. The coach will ask you to explain your present situation, current frustrations and thoughts.

It’s  the opportunity to seek answers to any questions that you may have and also to plan for any next steps.

What Questions should I ask the coach?

The 30-minute discovery call is not a coaching session. It’s a space offered by the coach so that the two of you can get to know each other and to plan potential next steps. You can ask any questions that come to mind concerning the Outplace Yourself methodology, the coaching sessions, preparation between the sessions, payment or indeed anything else. The coach will appreciate if you give him/her some background on your personal and professional situation and share some of your frustrations and thoughts.

At the end of the session, some will have already made their decision and will register immediately, others may need more time before taking a step forward. We are all different and that’s fine with us.

How would I know if we have a good match?

In coaching, the relationship between coach and client is key. Of course, a relationship can evolve over time. Trust, willingness and ease to open up to someone always grows over time.  However, all of us can make immediate judgements about other people on first meeting. We encourage you to use this talent and rely on your intuition and to also to yourself the following questions:

  • How good do/did I feel?
  • How agreeable is/was this discussion?
  • Would I be pleased to spend more time with this person?
  • Do/did I feel this person could challenge me?
  • Do/did I feel he/she was able to welcome my fears and hesitations, the ones I do not even want to see myself?

Make your decision based on your impression of the 30-minute call and answers to these questions that you have come to.

What can I expect from my investment?

The very first thing you should at least be expecting is a more fulfilled career.

By enrolling in an Outplace Yourself program, you will learn how to take ownership and control on that which is hindering you, marshal your strengths and build an action plan. You will design a realistic plan that will guide you on your journey to achieve your objective and provide sufficient motivation to carry on with the change.

For this, you will have individual coaching sessions with your coach. Thanks to the guided coaching exercises that your coach will invite you to complete, between 2 coaching sessions you will take full benefit of the coaching and supported by the Outplace Yourself coaching material, you will observe, experiment, reflect, try and test directions. All along your journey, you will benefit from our e-coaching environment which is providing a flexible, easy-to-use space to support your progress.

How much work will I have to do?

The Outplace Yourself methodology combines empowering coaching sessions and guided self-coaching activities. The amount of time you invest between sessions is totally up to you. In our experience, the more time you invest the more you benefit.

The preparation activity the coach gives you as “homework” for your next session is related to what was discussed in the previous session and will help you move towards the next milestone and get closer to your goals.

How do I know that what I tell my coach is kept confidential?

All the Outplace Yourself coaches work in accordance with the ICF Code of Ethics. Everything that is discussed in sessions remains strictly confidential, unless required by law.  This is major point in the collaboration agreement that you and your coach have committed to.

How will I know if I’ve made progress in our coaching?

At regular intervals during the program, you are invited to provide feed-back. The feedback pauses provide the opportunity to monitor your progress, give feed-back to your coach and hear his/her feedback.

Their purpose is to make sure that you are moving in the right direction to achieve your objectives and allow you to reshape your trajectory if necessary, depending on what you have already discovered on your journey so far.

Included in each coaching exercise that you complete between sessions you will find an integration and reflection section that will help you develop a clear awareness of your progress.

Why is the coaching material you provide entirely in English?

We support professionals all over the world, all of whom have a sound level of English in reading and writing and feel at ease with our coaching documentation in English.

The coaching sessions are held in the language of your choice. Some of our clients complete the preparation exercises in the language which they use with their Outplace Yourself Coach and that also works really well.

What happens during a coaching session?

What happens during a coaching session completely depends on what you bring to it: your verbal and non-verbal communications, your energy and your mood and feelings. Your coach values whatever you bring to the session and will help you in ways that supports your progress.

Thanks to his/her questioning know-how, the coach will insure you move towards the direction you have set for yourself and at the same time may invite you to look at other possibilities you did not initially consider. During some sessions and depending on the trajectory you are taking, the coach may invite you to perform some coaching exercises and will act as a sparring partner, mirror, welcoming shoulder, attentive ear, challenger or sometimes even as provocateur.
